Revision of DEGALLIER Nicolas from Sat, 2013-05-25 19:14

Naturaliste en herbe (et dans la savane) pendant son séjour au Sénégal de 5 à 15 ans, Nicolas observait et récoltait toutes sortes d’insectes, de reptiles (vivants), d’&oelig;ufs et de plumes d’oiseaux, de plantes (herbier), de minéraux qui ont constitué ses premières collections. Ensuite, la biologie s’est imposée peu à peu au cours de ses études, ainsi que la passion pour les insectes et leur diversité. Parmi ceux-ci, les Scarabées devenaient les plus recherchés. A son arrivée en France en 1962, il ne récoltait plus que les coprophages et familles vivant sous les petits cadavres, dont les Histeridae. Vers la fin de ses études (DEA d’Entomologie), Nicolas choisit de se spécialiser dans cette dernière famille relativement peu nombreuse en espèces, la plupart petites mais robustes, de formes très diverses et à l’écologie diversifiée.
Devenu chercheur en Entomologie médicale à l’IRD (ex-ORSTOM), il a étudié la systématique et l’écologie des moustiques vecteurs de viroses tropicales comme la fièvre jaune, la dengue ou Chikungunya, tout en continuant à construire sa collection de référence d’histérides à partir de ses récoltes ou d’échanges réalisés pendant ses loisirs.
Ses séjours Outre-Mer en Guyane, en République centrafricaine puis au Brésil lui ont permis d’acquérir de l’expérience sur ces faunes bien que sa collection générale n’ait pas de limite géographique. C’est durant son premier séjour de 4 ans 1/2 en Guyane qu’il a appris à travailler en forêt amazonienne tout en tombant sous le charme de cette nature vierge si mal connue.
C’est à partir de 2008 qu’il a commencé à identifier le matériel extrêmement riche récolté par la SEAG, un matériel qui lui permet d’approfondir les connaissances sur la faune des histérides de ce département français, et en quelque sorte de revenir à ses premières amours !
